This old cemetery is no longer in current use. It is situated about 1 mile west of Belmullet town, behind a row of newer houses on the coast road. Access is via a gravel driveway between two of the houses. The cemetery overlooks the bay to the south and Belmullet town to the east.
In common with most older cemeteries, the majority of the graves are unmarked, or the stones are too weathered to be read.
By 2007 the cemetery was completely overgrown (see top photo), until the Kilmore Rural Social Scheme (Shanahee,
Belmullet) supervised by Brķan MacSuibhne, took over the maintenance of Carne and many of the other burial grounds on the Belmullet peninsula.
